My Christmas Book Suggestion


In Endemic, the protagonist is Ovid Fairweather, a neurotic book editor who becomes an urban farmer in the viral apocalypse. Guided by her dead therapist, she has to deal with the many dangers other survivors pose, but deep down, this is about how we change and how we don’t.

Endemic has won the Literary Titan Award and earned first place at the New York Book Festival and the Hollywood Book Festival.

Thanks to Pete, my friend who got me book doctoring work that financed the budget for applying for awards. Thanks also to 100covers for their work in putting together the graphics package for this novel.

For anyone who doubted, I have to say I feel exonerated and wonderful. Coming first in Science Fiction/Horror is a big deal to me. This is my ninth writing award, but since Endemic is an apocalyptic tale set in NYC, it feels extra special. I guess I got it right!

Frankly, I’ve felt that Endemic has been underrated, so maybe this award will help the book find more readers. That’s what happened with my bestseller, when This Plague of Days, so I’m hopeful. There’s a lot of hoping in this business, so this is a nice lift!

Endemic is available as an ebook, hardcover, and paperback.

What to do during the apocalypse

Aside from planning a vegetable garden to supplement my supply of  M&Ms…

I don’t anticipate leaving my blanket fort (where I write and work on audiobooks) until about two weeks post-Vaccination Day. So looking forward to Vaccination Day!

Wee Beasties will kill me if they catch me outside so here’s how I’m spending my days in isolation:

I’m making a concerted effort to drink more water and work out daily. When in need of comfort, I make a mean focaccia. Not too much or too often with the bread. If I do that, why bother with exercise? There’s plenty of ways to get a heavy sweat on without venturing out into the Badlands. These walls are my world.

I figure a lot of dudes go to prison and come out buff. That’s my plan.

How are you spending your time in isolation?

I’ll be giving a reading, signing and selling books and talking on a panel at the London Public Library, Central Branch from 11 – 4 p.m on Saturday, April 25. 

Join me and a bunch of authors from London, Ontario. We’ll talk genre and craft for the love of reading. New inductees will read their works of poetry, graphic novels and fiction. I’ll be reading from The Haunting Lessons. (Sales and signings follow the last panel discussion.)
